Mr. Moreland (Opie) is a 1987 graduate of Brainerd High School in Brainerd Minnessota. He was a five-year member of the Belleville Black Nights Drum and Bugle Corps and is currently the brass caption head and chief music arranger for the Crimson Express. Michael has attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Southeast Missouri State Univeristy, John A. Logan College, and received his Bachelor's degree in music education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the spring of 2003. Mr. Moreland has worked with Stouton High School, Mt. Olive High School, and Harrisburg High School marching bands, and was Director of Bands at Murphysboro Middle School. In the summer of 2007, Opie was selected to become Director of Bands for Murphysboro High School and Crimson Express.

Nick Williams is a native of Murphysboro, Illinois, graduating from Murphysboro High School in 2003. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received his Bachelor’s of Music degree in Music Education, in May 2007. While at SIU Carbondale, Nick studied conducting under Dr. Susan Davenport, Director of Choral Activities, and Professor Edward Benyas, Director of Orchestras. He also studied band methods under Professor Michael Hanes, Director of Bands Emeritus, and current Director of Bands, Dr. Christopher Morehouse. In July 2007, Mr. Williams was selected to become Director of Bands for Murphysboro Middle School. He teaches Band, Jazz Ensemble, 5th grade Beginning Band, 6th grade Music Theory, and 8th grade Music Appreciation.
In addition to being Director of Bands for Murphysboro Middle School, Nick serves as the Assistant Director for the Crimson Express Marching Band, where he teaches both visual and musical elements. He previously worked with Crimson in 2005, and has worked with the Pinckneyville High School and Belleville East High School band programs. Nick has also served on staff with SIU Carbondale’s own Marching Salukis as an undergraduate assistant.
Mr. Williams is a member of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, and the Illinois Music Educator’s Association.

Paul Intravaia, a native of Carbondale, received his Master of Arts Degree from Radford University. While working on his Graduate studies, he held the Graduate Teaching Assistant position and was a Teaching Fellow. Other teaching experiences are derived from all levels of education, including a Graduate Assistant position at Southern Illinois University, percussion methods class instruction at the collegiate level, twenty-three years of contractual percussion instruction at the high school level, drumline instruction at the middle school, high school, and college level, and private lessons for all levels and the developmentally disable, and a guest lecturer and clinician.
In addition to his experience as an instructor, He has performed in organizations including The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, The New River Pops, The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Percussion/Marimba Ensembles at Radford and Southern Illinois Universities, professional recording sessions, as well as regional live performances on drumset in musical groups encompassing several different genres.
Currently, he is a Paramedic with Jackson County Ambulance Service, working with the Crimson Express Percussion/Front Ensemble (pit), musical director at Elverado Community Unit School District, private teaching, and studies/educational endeavors with drummer/band leader/producer Jim Riley of Rascal Flatts.
Alix BeckmanAuxiliary Tech
Alix was in the Crimson Express color guard 2001-2004 seasons. She graduated from Murphysboro High School in 2005 and continued to work with Crimson as a guard tech under the direction of Justin Klarer. In 2007 she became the color guard caption head and has continued to work with Crimson since than. Currently Alix is working towards a Bachelors in Biological Science from Southern Illinois University and planning on graduating in the spring of 2010. After graduation she is hoping to earn her Master's degree in Forensic Science.
Casey HansonAuxiliary Tech
Casey graduated from Murphysboro High School in 2005. She is currently working on an associates in biological science at John A. Logan College. Casey was a member of the Crimson Express color guard from 2001-2005.
