2009-2010 Crimson Express and Company Officers:

DebbieDebbie Parnell
President

Debbie and her husband, Chuck have lived in Murphysboro most of their lives. They have been involved with the Crimson Express for the past 4 years, and the MMS band for the past 5 years. Debbie and her husband have 2 children, Kenny and Robbiel. Kenny graduated from MHS last yearr, and played the trumpet. Robbie is a Junior, and plays percussion in the band. Both of our boys have been involved with the band program since the 6th grade. Debbie is employed with Shawnee Health Service for the past 17 years, she is based at the Murphysboro Health Center & Shawnee Dental Center as the Assistant Clinic Manager. Chuck is employed with Illinois Department of Corrections for the past 28 years. This is Debbie'ssecond year serving as the Booster President.

Dave BargerDavid Barger
Vice President

Dave and Kelly have lived in Murphysboro for 21 years and have two children. Alex is attending college and Nick is a Junior in the horn line. Dave has been employed with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the past 21 years and Kelly has been teaching at Saint Andrew School in Murphysboro for 10 years. Dave and Kelly are beginning their 7th year as Crimson volunteers.

TracyTracy Hartung
Secretary

Tracy lives in Murphysboro with her husband and has two children, both of whom are members of the prestigious Crimson Express. Morgan is a senior and plays the flute, Blake is a Sophmore and plays trumpet. Tracy has been an active parent in both the Middle School and Crimson band boosters. This is her second year serving on the board of Crimson Express.

 

 

2009 - 2010 Crimson Express Executive Board:

The Crimson Express Executive Board endevors to keep band related activities running smoothly. Executive Board members are chosen to represent most areas in the band. The President presides over the Board and the Secretary documents activities for future reference. The Board meets as needed to address budget and funding decisions as well as to review and update the Crimson Express operating papers. Members serving on the 2007 - 2008 Executive Board of Crimson Express and Company are:

AndreaAndrea Brewer

Andrea and husband Brian have lived and worked in Murphysboro most of their lives. We have two children and both attend MHS. Our son, Ashton, is a Senior this year and is a wrestler for MHS. Our daughter, Hilary, is a Sophomore and plays percussion in the band along with being onthe Golf team, Basketball and Softball. She also is a member of the Key Club. Andrea is a nurse manager in the cardiac cath lab at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and has been employed there for 20 years. Brian is a Sergeant at the police department in Murphysboro.

 

 

CarlaCarla Quigley

Carla and her husband Bill have two sons involved in Crimson Express. Their oldest son Nick was a member of the percussion section from 2002-2006. He is currenly attending John A.Logan College where is is majoring in journalism. He is also a drumline instructor for the upcoming fall season. Their younger son Kyle is a Sophmore at MHS and has been performing with the band since he was in the 7th grade. He is a member of the percussion section. Carla works at SIU at the Physical Plant. She also takes care of the uniforms for the band. This is her second year serving as an at-large member of the board.

 

 

DaveDave Preece

David and his wife Wendy have two children. Dylan is a freshman at MHS and plays trumpet with the Crimson Express. They also have a daughter, Madison who is in the 6th grade and plays clarinet with the Blue Devil Band. Dave served the last two years as Band Booster President for the Blue Devil Band and this year as Vice-President. Dave is excited about serving on the Crimson Board. Both Dave and Wendy are looking forward to many years as Crimson parents.

 

 

Crimson Express & Company - History and Goals:

History

The Crimson Express and its parent booster organization, Crimson Express & Company, were formed in 1990, bringing with it a new emphasis on marching band competition. Through dedicated efforts over the ensuing years, the Crimson Express & Company have supported the Crimson Express by raising money to purchase necessary equipment and to provide opportunities for students to participate in a year-round program. The Crimson Express is now recognized as one of the most outstanding marching bands of its size in the Midwest, and has represented the community of Murphysboro in competitions and parades as far away as Calgary, Canada, and Walt Disneyworld in Florida. Crimson Express & Company annually provide the necessary volunteer manpower to host Drums at Appletime Marching Band Competition during the Murphysboro Apple Festival, a competition that grows larger each year. Additionally, they have raised sufficient funds to provide an annual Crimson Express Summer Tour, a competition season that no other area high school marching band provides its students.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Crimson Express & Company is to support the Murphysboro High School band program in all of its many facets and to enhance the quality and quantity of educational opportunities available to Murphysboro high school students by providing a vehicle for parent communication, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising,

Goals:

  • To promote opportunities for student participation regardless of family income, specifically recognizing that the cost of instruments and lessons can be significant.
  • To promote positive, enriching, year-round, quality music education and to enhance the mental, moral, social and physical development of students.
  • To promote appreciation of music and the arts, and to encourage life-long habits for utilizing music as recreation.
  • To promote interpersonal development, self-discipline, teamwork, responsibility and leadership in all participating students.
